Is the Devil real? Do spirits really bother people?
Are spells cast on people? I believe that the answer
to all of these is emphatically YES! We have seen
more evidence of that here the longer we stay. I
don’t know if it is happening more often or that we
are just more aware of what was already happening.
The nurse asked me to see someone who was convulsing.
The family had just called him for the convulsions
and he grabbed Valium and a syringe and headed for the
room. On the way he saw me and asked me to come over.
When we walked in she was lying there normally. So I
began asking some questions to determine whether or
not she had convulsions. She had had “them” for a
week at a dispensary. They happened more often in
evening and at night. The convulsions were described
as a hiccup that got worse and worse then her eyes
went to the back of her head and she was rigid. I
believed she was conscious with this description so I
asked her what she felt when this happened. The
response was, “I get chest pain and it hurts right
here (pointing to the center of her chest), and its
when the spirits stab me!” So I questioned further.
But she immediately went into one of these episodes
just as was described. I realized this was not a
physical battle but a spiritual one. I placed my
hands on her and prayed out loud. I asked God to talk
away any spirits, to show the family His power, to
drive the devil and his angels away from her and the
hospital. She immediately stopped, PRAISE GOD! After
prayer she looked normal again. Then she started
looking at the ceiling and talking. I asked the nurse
what she was saying. He said that she saw spirits who
wanted her to go with them. They were offering her
suitcases of money, a new car, a mansion of a house.
She kept talking… Then she started saying that she
had grown up all her life without these things and did
not want what the spirits had to offer and she would
not go with them. She refused their gifts and to go
with them. Then she looked normal again. I noticed
that while she was saying this she was fiddling with a
crucifix around her neck. I asked if she was catholic
and she was. I then encouraged her that our God is
more powerful than any spirit and that she should
never accept to go with the spirits. God loves her
and is more powerful than any spirits. This is the
REAL reason we are here, to tell/show Gods love to our
patients.
Why do I tell this story? It is to reinforce in each
of your minds that there is a devil that is trying to
take control of each one of us. But God is always
more powerful and if we accept His power and will in
our lives there is nothing the devil can do but to
leave us alone. I just pray we each one keep
accepting Gods power in our lives. Please pray for
her and us as we try to help our patients heal
physically and spiritually.
